During your excursion you will visit a winery and have the opportunity to sample a collection of the best Bandol wines. But first on your itinerary is a visit to the Provencal village of Le Castellet.

Upon arriving in Le Castellet your guide will point out the many historical landmarks that abound in this tiny town that is perched on the edge of a cliff. Unlike many villages in France that showcase mere remnants of their medieval past, Le Castellet gives you the feeling that you have stepped into a 15th century fortified hamlet. Sections of the ancient ramparts still stand, as well as narrow, cobblestone streets, and stone houses adorned with climbing bougainvillea and overflowing pots of geraniums and lavender. And the hilltop castle provides spectacular views of limestone cliffs and a wealth of vineyards. This village kept all its magic of the middle ages. After a walking tour with your guide you may love to shop among the local goods boutiques and art galleries.

After a drive along the coast of Provence you will arrive in the vineyards of Bandol. In this valley, people make wine for 2600 years. The warm Mediterranean climate, endless days of sunshine and over 3,200 acres of rolling hills are the perfect backdrop to some of the most delicious wines in the world.

It is known that the Greeks began making wine when they settled in the region around 600 B.C. The wine they produced had a renowned reputation by the time the Romans arrived in 125 B.C. Over time, the wines of Bandol have become one of the most internationally recognized wines of Provence. There are many different factors that determine the aroma and taste of wine, from the age and varieties of vines to the climate, soil and terrain. To learn more about Bandol wines, you will stop at a vineyard for a visit of the Domain and wine tasting. Whether you are a novice or a connaisseur you will learn how to check a wine color and clarity, how to smell, taste, and analyze the wine flavor and aroma as you sip a glass of red, rosé and white wine.

Furthermore, Bandol wines benefit from a special label since they are recognized for their quality by the French Ministry of Agriculture. This label is the AOC Bandol (Appellation Origin Controlled). Your guide will tell you every detail about the local wine culture and the wine making process during the wine tasting.

After the tasting your guide will lead you along the port of Bandol where the daily market is fulfilled with colors and aromas of herbs of Provence. Along the port of Bandol is also is beautiful collection of traditional fishermen boat from the 19th century.

You will continue your tour to Sanary sur Mer. Arriving in Sanary-sur-Mer, you will disembark and explore this enchanting 16th century town with your guide-lecturer. Unlike most beaches on the Riviera, Sanary-sur-Mer is open and active yearound. With only 60 days of rain, it has been called the sunniest place in France. Have your camera handy as you discover many delights of Sanary. Want to shop for French fashions, sip a cappuccino or grab a croque madame… In the center of town you will find shops, restaurants and cafés. Perhaps you would like to wander around the pretty harbor set in the heart of the town and home to old Provencal fishing boats locally known as pointus. Lined with palm trees and homes painted in the pastel shades of Provence, the harbor is known for its 13th century tower, which offers panoramic views from the top. Sitting atop the main hill, the 16th century Notre-Dame-de-Pitié chapel is noted for its simple architectural design and views over the bay of Sanary.

Lunch will be organized according to your wishes and is not included.

Wine tastings are to be paid directly at the winery. Consider from 5 to 15 euros per person depending on the number of wines you taste.

My friends Dave,Carol and I were on a cruise that docked in Toulon. There were no shore excursions offered by our cruise that interested us, so I found ProvencePrivate tourand I booked this tour. And we had an excellent day!

Our guide Bernard picked us up from the port. He was the best guide we ever had. He knows all the places we visited and he definitely knows all making process of wine and explained plenty of details about it.

At first we went to Le Castellet, it was a very small and pretty village. We had a beautiful view of the valley and vineyards from here. As if the village from Medieval ages, quite interesting. It’s a good place to take photographs. There were some shops sell souvenirs. Then we drove to Bandol. Bandol was a beautiful town, we loved Bandol’s port. It was a beautiful place where big and small boats were decorated with colorful flags.
We stopped at a vineyard for a visit of the Domain and wine tasting. Bernard explained all the wine process and we tasted delicious wines. The wine tasting was a highlight of the trip and we really enjoyed so much. We had a perfect lunch in a nice restaurant, even exceeded our expectations. Sanary was a beautiful, charming town too. The chapel of Notre Dame had a beautiful view. Nice restaurants, cafes, shops…
Thank you for this perfect tour. Would highly recommend this tour and Bernard.
