Walk in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh. Visit all the places where he lived and painted between 1888 and 1890.

You will admire dozens of paintings exactly where Van Gogh painted them.

Meet your professional tour guide at your cruise ship, hotel or private residence.

After a tour across the landscapes painted by Van Gogh you will arrive in Arles. Your private guide will take you to all the places painted by Van Gogh : Pont Langlois, Rhône river, yellow house, yellow café, hospital, garden and roman amphitheater.

You will also see all the remarkable monuments of Arles : church of Saint-Trophime, roman theater, roman aqueduct, roman bath.

Consider 3 hours for a complete tour of Arles.

We recommend to have lunch in Arles before you take the road to Saint-Rémy.

On your way to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence you will pass by the abbey of Montmajour and the village of Les Baux-de-Provence.

Arriving in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence your guide invites you to visit the asylum where Van Gogh was admitted after he cut his ear. The asylum is still working as a psychiatric hospital providing art therapy.

Do not miss the roman heritage next to the asylum : mausoleum and arch of triumph from the first century.

Explore the small town of Saint-Rémy and its lovely shops. Your guide will show you the house where the famous Nostradamus was born and help you to get the best shopping bargains.

By the end of the day you will know every single detail about the life of one of the greatest painters of all times.

We spent three fantastic days with our guide Romain showing us around Provence. We first went to Arles where we visited the amphitheater, the night cafe, hospital and then the asylum at St Remy. Along the way Romain continually explained the impact and importance to Van Gogh of these locations. We also visited St Remy, the Pont du Gard and the Luberon. As a guide, Romain was knowledgeable, fun and extremely easy to get along with. Nothing was too much trouble and if we wanted to spend more time in one location, Romain was more than happy to accommodate our wishes. We highly recommend Romain as a guide and this tour company.

We had a great tour from our MSC cruise in Marseille to Arles and Saint Rémy de Provence with Roman.
Before we arrived in Arles he stopped by the Langlois bridge painted by Van Gogh. I felt priviledged to picture myself next to this bridge because any other tour I have been looking for weren’t stoping there and this bridge is one of my favorite Van Gogh’s painting.
Then we went to the center of Arles where you can discover a 2000 year old Roman marvel next to a Van Gogh’s painting at every corner. For me this city is the best I ever toured in. It is not overcrowded, it is not made for tourists only, it is authentic, real, not perfect but so beautiful.
Roman recommended us the Caesar restaurant decorated by Christian Lacroix where we had a delicious lunch.
If you come to Provence an if you like Van Gogh do not miss Saint Paul de Mausole psychatric asylum in Saint Rémy de Provence. It is an ancient monastry where Van Gogh arrived after he cut his hear. There you will enter his bedroom and see so many reproductions of his masterpieces axactly where he painted them by the fields outside the asylum. Just MAGIC !
Thank you Roman and all the staff from Provence Private Tour.
    See you next year.

We are 5 friends and usually we prefer to visit the cities ourselves. Every year we arrange a different route. We took a cruise on the Mediterranean in this year (September 2019)
We decided to want to do something different this year and We wanted to do something about Van Gogh. My friends and I have decided that this tour will not be handled without guidance, especially if the subject is Van Gogh. (We knew that this tour could not be done without guidance) So I found the Provence Private tour company. Our guide was Romain. We were warmly greeted by him at the port. I’m not really exaggerating, he was superb! An unprecedented guide, awesome! The tour was extraordinary, we loved every minute of the tour. We are very happy to do this tour with Romain.
Thank you very much for this wonderful tour and guidance.
For those considering this tour, ask for Romain! He is terrific!

We recommend to anyone who plans to visit Van Gogh.

I researched a bit before I took this tour for our family group of 8 people. I contacted with Provence Private tour. Laurent who is responsible of all guest relations advised this tour and he mentioned about a big market in Saint Remy on Wednesday and shared some details about the tour.

We went to exhibiton in the Morning. Our guide said that every year a different artist’s paintings were displayed.
Then we went to Saint Remy, If you’re Provence region on Wednesday, don’t miss this market in Saint Remy, the whole town was an open air market full of colours! You can find great local products in the region; fresh vegetables&fruit, various cheeses, delicious dry meats, breads, sweets even you can find clothes here. All excellent quality. We bought some local cheeses, dry meats and some fresh fruits. You shouldn’t miss it. It was fabulous.
Then we visited Van Gogh’s Asylum. This psychiatric hospital and Roman ruins from the 1st century A.D, worth to see…

During the day our guide was Pascal. She was amazing, friendly and extraordinary knowledgeable. We had a perfect day and we would strongly recommend this tour. You won’t regret it.

Our group of 10 people were on Celebrity Constellation in Marseille.
We met our guide at the Marseille port. The driver was a safe driver and our bus was good and perfectly clean.

The tour was superb! Roman was a terrific guide for our group. He knows Van Gogh’s works and life incredibly well. We didn’t even realize we spent 8 hours with his wonderful narration. We will definitely do another tour with the same group next year. Of course with Roman!
    We highly recommend it.

This tour is exactly what I was dreaming about Provence ! Arles is such a simple and lovely city. So authentic ! Its heritage is amazing. Out tour was perfect with Sylvie. Standing exactly in front a painting of Van Gogh where he painted it was amazing. Saint Rémy Asylum is also magic. It is more than just art. Its highly spiritual. Thank you for the emotion you gave me.

  9. Robin Davis

My wife and I spent a joyous afternoon in the company of Sylvie visiting Arles and St Remy to explore Van Gogh’s time in Provence. For anyone who likes his paintings from that time, it’s a joy. You can still see where it was and you can still see the railway bridge that’s in the same painting. The night cafe is also there, now painted bright yellow. The Fondation Van Gogh, while not officially on the itinerary, is well worth a side visit time permitting.
We were also able to visit St Paul de Mausole, the mental hospital where Van Gogh admitted himself from 1889 to 1890. Still a hospital for mentally ill patients it exudes an atmosphere of calm and peace. Some of his best loved paintings were done here including Starry Night and the Irises. The bedroom used by Vincent is open to visit; it felt a privilege to step inside it.
Many thanks for Sylvie for making it a memorable afternoon.

I did this tour with my elder sister and my mother. It was an absolutely great tour. The tour guide, vehicle, driver were simply perfect. The tour was very exciting, very emotional, very inspiring. I think I should write more details about the guide, because I think thanks to him we had a great tour.
His name was Roman B., he was an expert of Van Gogh and his paintings. He has a fantastic skill. When he explains the details of Van Gogh’s life, as if you can feel to touch to Van Gogh. He was so successful, so knowledgeable.
Would strongly recommend. Thanks for this unforgettable day.
